Indicator to see if the correct temperature was reached in a pressure cooker when sterilising Sorghum
Colour indication
Autoclave Tape is used as an indicator to see if the correct temperature was reached in a pressure cooker when sterilising Sorghum.
Autoclave tape is an adhesive tape, that has diagonal lines embedded and is used in autoclaving to indicate whether a specific temperature has been reached. Autoclave tape works by changing colour after exposure to temperatures commonly used in the sterilisation processes, typically 121°C in a steam autoclave. Autoclave tape can be used if you do not have a Pressure Gauge on your pressure cooker, to help you with a visual test to determine whether sterilisation has taken place. It is a best practice to use Autoclave tape in addition to having a Pressure Gauge. If the tape has not changed to black well-defined lines after autoclaving, the grain is not sterile.
Colour change Guideline, post autoclaving:
Light brown = too cold
Silver = too hot
Smudged silver = burnt
Crisp line = the correct pressure
Black = perfect
