On Thursday, the 25th of August 2022, Futurama hosted a ladies' self-defence evening, celebrating women across the globe in August in collaboration with Vetus Schola, Missfit, Rio Grappling Club and Atma Café.

Futurama is a well-known and established online and retail business. Our Head office and retail stores are both situated in Somerset West and offer a variation of self-defence solutions.

On Thursday, the 25th of August 2022, Futurama hosted a ladies' self-defence evening. The evening focused on close-quarters self-defence training using the martial art Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and how to use non-lethal weapons to avoid close-quarter scenarios altogether. Our professional Jiu-Jitsu instructor, Eduan Van Graan, focused on the mental aspects of self-defence and how to react in various situations. Eduan demonstrated basic Jiu-Jitsu moves empowering the ladies with the knowledge and training needed to protect themselves against would-be attackers. Their mission is to share their love of these martial arts with as many people as possible in a competitive, safe, friendly, club environment.

Each lady also received a warm cup of coffee on the house from Atma Café. This incredible five-star mobile Café operates around the Helderberg area, Gordons Bay Faure Marine Drive, Koel Bay and Strand Pipe. They offer gourmet barista coffees, healthy raw juices, smoothies and snacks. For more information about the brand, visit their Facebook page at Atma Café or get in contact with them on 073 553 3195.

Missfit hosted an incredible warmup class for all the ladies to join in on before the self-defence class, as well as a presentation on boxing fitness and how strength can help you.

The best way to defend yourself is to educate yourself. This is the main goal of Vetus Schola, they provided a very informative presentation of hot spots to look out for as well as keeping safe during wintertime.

At the end of the event each lady received a gift bag with incredible gifts inside, it contained a Rio Grappling voucher, a Missfit voucher to come join one free session, an alcohol breathalyser, a Vetus Schola keyring with a self-defence tool, a card with emergency numbers, a number for Missfit and Rio Grappling club.
