Two tiers Convert organic household waste into liquid fertilizer Able to purchase additional levels Easy and efficient
The Forest Roots Worm Farm - 2 Piece is an easy and efficient way to convert organic household waste into liquid fertilizer (the worm urine) and a very rich, nutrient-dense organic compost (the worm castings), known as vermicompost. The farm is made up of two tiers.
The top tier of this 2 layered system is where you will start the worm farm. The worm urine will filter through the holes and the liquid gold will accumulate at the bottom level where there is a tap to bottle all that goodness as needed. The best part of the Forest Roots worm farm is that you are able to purchase additional levels as your worm farm expands, allowing you to build it up in your own time.
Importance of Composting - Compost is organic material that can be added to soil to help plants grow. Food scraps and yard waste together currently make up more than 28 percent of what we throw away, and should be composted instead. Making compost keeps these materials out of landfills where they take up space and release methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Some benefits include, it enriches soil, helping retain moisture and suppress plant diseases and pests. Reduces the need for chemical fertilizers. Encourages the production of beneficial bacteria and fungi that break down organic matter to create humus, a rich nutrient-filled material. Reduces methane emissions from landfills and lowers your carbon footprint.
Basic Ingredients Needed for Composting - Browns: This includes materials such as dead leaves, branches, and twigs. Reducing Wasted Food Basics. Greens: This includes materials such as grass clippings, vegetable waste, fruit scraps, and coffee grounds. Water: Having the right amount of water, greens, and browns is important for compost development.
Why Worm Farms? - Food waste in our garbage bins costs us all money, wastes our precious natural resources and contributes to climate change as it breaks down in landfills. Worms are natural recyclers that break down the food waste put into the worm farm and produce 10 times richer soil than normal.
Easy Way to Make and Use Your Own Worm Tea - Worm tea is ultimately the end result of steeping worm castings or vermicompost in water. Worm tea is known mostly for its ability to boost microbiological activity in soil by adding bacteria, fungi, actinomycetes, and protozoa to the soil. If you are already worm farming and have easy access to worm castings then making worm tea will be a breeze.
