The Root'd C007 Carolina Reaper Pepper - 5 Seeds produces chillies between 2.5cm and 5cm wide and 5cm to 7cm long. The Carolina Reaper Pepper is a fearsome and extremely hot chili pepper that holds the title for being the world's hottest pepper, according to the Guinness World Records. Developed by Ed Currie of PuckerButt Pepper Company in South Carolina, USA, the Carolina Reaper is a crossbreed between a Ghost Pepper and a Red Habanero. It boasts an astonishing Scoville heat rating that can exceed 2 million units, making it exponentially hotter than other peppers. This pepper is known for its distinctive appearance, featuring a rough, bumpy skin and a signature stinger-like tail. Its colour ranges from bright red to deep crimson.
The Carolina Reaper delivers an intense and prolonged burn, leaving a lingering heat sensation that can be overwhelming for the uninitiated. Beyond its incredible heat, it possesses a fruity, smoky flavour profile, adding depth to its scorching intensity. The Carolina Reaper is often used sparingly in hot sauces, salsas, and spicy recipes, serving as a challenge for those seeking the ultimate heat experience. It has become an iconic pepper for spice enthusiasts and daredevils looking to test their tolerance for extreme spiciness.
Growing Notes: There are various ways to germinate seeds. You can use the moist paper towel method, germinate in trays indoors or sow directly in pots. However, it is a good idea to start seeds indoors in small pots or germination trays. Keep the medium moist during germination and if you can maintain a warm consistent temperature it will be beneficial. You can soak seeds for about 2 hours to soften the seeds. It is common to soak seeds in a weak Hydrogen peroxide or weak chamomile tea solution. Do not sow seeds too deep. Be patient as some hotter varieties can take weeks to germinate. After seeds sprout and a few leaves have formed, you can start to transplant and move outdoors when temperatures become warmer. Peppers love rich soil, so adding compost to the garden or potting mix is highly recommended.
